From A2 (complete)

Book Club for German Learners

  1. The books chosen are in German, but not necessarily by German authors;
  2. Club members have the option to purchase a “passport” of 1, 3 or 6 readings, which can be renewed; Click here for prices and conditions.
  3. The length of reading may vary depending on the book, as well as the number of encounters. During the first year of Leseratten, most of our readings lasted 3 encounters.
  4. The reading rate is, on average, between 35 and 40 pages per week;
  5. Books will cost up to 15 Euros, but ideally up to 10 Euros and each member is responsible for purchasing their own books;
  6. For copyright reasons, the organizer (Julia Barreiro) will not be able to provide PDFs or audiobooks of the chosen works, but it is at the discretion of the club members to seek and share this type of material among themselves;
  7. Each selected book will have a collective reading plan. The plan is a suggested reading rhythm, which takes into consideration busy people, with children and work, as well as the difficulty of reading;
  8. The selection of the books is made by Julia Barreiro, to ensure that the difficulty level is appropriate to those who already have completed at least the B1 level. As of July 2022 some readings will be appropriate for the A2 level as well. Keep in mind that those who rarely read German or not at all may have difficulties, especially at the beginning, even if they have completed the A2 level. Reading will become easier with time. Have patience and self-compassion;
  9. Book suggestions are welcome;
  10. All members must participate in the WhatsApp group, where they must exchange ideas, tips and ask vocabulary questions between one meeting and another;
  11. The meetings will be fortnightly, on the second and last Tuesday of each month, by Zoom;
  12. Members commit to logging in to Zoom 5 minutes before the start of each meeting;
  13. The meetings will start punctually at 19:10. Entry will not be allowed after 10 minutes of delay, so as not to disturb the progress of the meeting.
    After 19:20 no one else enters;
  14. Members undertake to notify at least 30 minutes in advance in case of absence or delay;
  15. Although the club initially has a relatively homogeneous audience (Brazilians living in Germany), it is open to people of any gender and nationality, as long as they are German students over 18 years of age and meet the prerequisites for entry in the club. Share with your friends!;
  16. Selected books will not be censored for content that includes violence, drugs, sex or profanity;
  17. Readings of works of all kinds are welcome;
  18. The entry of new members will always be accepted one week before the start of each new reading;
